Dissolved organic matter released by two marine heterotrophic bacterial strains and its bioavailability for natural prokaryotic communities

چکیده
Marine heterotrophic prokaryotes (HP) play a key role in organic matter processing the ocean; however, view of HP as dissolved (DOM) sources remains underexplored. In this study, we quantified and optically characterized DOM produced by two single marine bacterial strains. We then tested availability these to situ Mediterranean Sea communities. Two strains were used: Photobacterium angustum (a copiotrophic gammaproteobacterium) Sphingopyxis alaskensis (an oligotrophic alphaproteobacterium). When cultivated on glucose sole carbon source, released from 7% 23% initial derived (B-DOM), quality which (as enrichment humic or protein-like substances) differed between B-DOM induced significant growth consumption natural communities, suggesting that it was partly labile. However, consistently promoted lower prokaryotic efficiencies than DOM. addition, changed exoenzymatic activities, enhancing aminopeptidase activity when degrading P. DOM, alkaline phosphatase using S. differences diversity composition. affects metabolism diversity, thus changing pathways for cycling (e.g. respiration over biomass production) ocean.

An understanding of the distribution of colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in the oceans and its role in the global carbon cycle requires a better knowledge of the colored materials produced and consumed by marine phytoplankton and bacteria. In this work, we examined the net uptake and release of CDOM by a natural bacterial community growing on DOM derived from four phytoplankton species c...

The recalcitrant fraction of marine dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays an important role in carbon storage on the earth's surface. Bacterial production of recalcitrant DOM (RDOM) has been proposed as a carbon sequestration process. It is still unclear whether bacterial physiology can affect RDOM production. In this study, we conducted a batch culture using the marine bacterial isolate Alterom...

Bioavailability of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) and 3,3',4,4'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (TCB) was studied in natural lake water containing dissolved organic matter (DOM). Lake water was diluted to give a dissolved organic carbon (DOC) range of 1 to 20 mg/L. Partition coefficients for the model compounds were assessed at different DOM concentrations and over time with three different methods, namely equilibri...
